I Need Surgery

Guess where I am?!
Today at my orthopedic appointment they informed me that I am going to need surgery to put my ankle back together correctly. We started the appointment taking some new x-rays (they wouldn’t give me a copy) which required me to remove my temporary leg cast. The air felt great on my leg, which only lasted a few moments until my foot realized it was no longer supported. The swelling began as I moved from the x-ray room to the doctor’s office.
After the nurse collected my personal information Jaime and I waited for the doctor to arrive. I found a comfy spot on the (tiny) medical chair
The doctor came in holding my x-rays and snapped them to the display panel. He introduced himself and began explaining the situation as he touched parts of my foot. My toes all had good circulation and I can feel things and wiggle them. He drew a line where the fibula ran and gently prodded around the break. Then he started pushing around my inner ankle where I felt some very sharp pain. He explained that the fall broke my fibula and also ripped my ankle ligament (which he referred to as the deltoid ligament). He made some hand gestures to symbolize what happened. The best way to describe it is if you cup your fist with your other hand and then expand your hand half an inch. This extra gap creates an unstable ankle, and also explains why it felt like my ankle was dangling. The surgery, which is scheduled for Wednesday, March 18th at 1:30p.m., will include putting a few pins through my fibula and tibia to pinch them back together where they have separated. The doctor explained my healing process would take six weeks with no weight bearing on my foot, followed by four weeks of physical therapy.
I’m still in high spirits and will be sure to post my experience with surgery! I’m so thankful that my insurance has covered so much, and that 24 hour fitness has been so supportive.
Thank you everyone for your wishes! I do appreciate every one of them.
